Finding Jesus

1985

Determined to find out more about Jesus, Paloma found a group of ‘Born-Again’ Christians that were studying the Bible. They were friendly and outgoing, and they prayed in a strange way that she had never heard before. However, she still remained uncertain about everything, especially after some of her friends reacted negatively to her new discovery. One day, feeling confused and overwhelmed, Paloma ventured out on a walk with only her Bible. While walking, she randomly opened her Bible to Romans 2, which said, "You've been saying what terrible people they are but you've been just as bad and I've been so patient with you." This immediately struck her because of the way she had begun to view her friends and some Christians she had met. "I was in the middle of this field, and I knew that God had spoken that directly to me. I was really ashamed and sorry for what I had thought and asked God to forgive me. I was sick & tired of being the way I was. As my spirit yielded to the truth being revealed to me, my heart went from loathing my sin to realizing that God was real and His love was all over me."

Wanting to keep the conversation going with God, Paloma randomly opened the Bible, this time to Colossians 2:2-3, which states, “that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

"Jesus was the treasure! Immediately, I started praising God and felt His spirit filling the emptiness inside of me. When I ran out of words of praise, I started praying spontaneously in that strange, child-like language that I had heard at the prayer meeting. Surrounded by God’s tangible presence and amazed at what was happening, I realized that a window to heaven had been opened. Dave was shocked when I came back and knew something had happened to me. It was a visible change. For the first time in my life, I felt like I finally had access to God."
